Kyla loves the color purple, anything Basic Grey, white cardigan
sweaters, ketchup on hot-dogs and ranch dressing on salads. Her
favorite Pizza is Greek Vegetarian and her favorite place to eat in
Newport is Local Ocean. She hates to be dirty and loves to have
her picture taken. She is SO ready for a huge life adventure
and her dreams of becoming a social worker RN and entering the Peace
Corps is currently in the works. She loves her family, adores her
dogs and can, if need be, bench press 30 pounds. She is a
hypochondriac and single (much to her mother’s dismay) and a
horrible cook. She is patient and kind and not so good at math. She
loves Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss and pretending she is an Olympic
Contender by carefully traversing the curbs on the street where she
lives. In 2001 she opened a quaint little scrapbook store in
the small hamlet of Nye Beach, on the central Oregon Coast, in Newport,
called Memories By Me, She shunned convention by caring very unusual
Scrapbooking supplies, the store was well received as was the
exceptional quality of the products. After a dozen or so customers
asked her to host a weekend crop, Kyla decided to give her hand a
try at playing hostess Thus was born Scrappy Chicks. Because
of the huge response and success of the retreats Kyla sold Memories
By Me in late 2007 to concentrate all her attention on Scrappy Chicks
and her dreams of becoming a Nurse. Kyla takes care of all the
reservations and classes given at the retreat and is the primary hostess.
Maggie loves the color blue, oversize tee-shirts and takes her steak
rare. She loves anything by Heidi Swap, chipboard and paint. With
Maggie excess is the theme of her life. More is simply not just
More but “more” better! She shares her love of more
while she does all the cooking and cleaning for the retreats. In
a typical retreat, with 15 guests, Maggie will go through 2 Gallons
of Heavy Cream and 17 pounds of butter cooking the meals. “Mags” does
not believe in having her picture taken, hence she has no driver’s
license and her stories of driving illegally for the
past 15 years are hysterical.
